DIRECTOR
Ingrid Tollgerdt-Andersson, PhD
Ingrid Tollgerdt-Andersson completed her PhD at the Stockholm School of Economics and Business Administration in 1989 with a disser-
tation on successful management in business. The results showed great differences between managers in successful and unsuccessful
companies in terms of attitudes, values and demands on leadership. The dissertation received a lot of media attention. Ingrid was
employed at the Stockholm School of Economics and Business Administration until 1993 and then at the School of Economics and
Management at the University of Lund but now works with commissioned research and consultation in the company.
Ingrid Tollgerdt-Andersson has during the years carried out
research on management and organizations in different fields, both
nationally and internationally. One example is research into
personal chemistry, resulting in a book "What is personal
chemistry?" (in Swedish). In 1990 she presented research on
successful manage-ment in "Success or adversity" (in Swedish). She
has also carried out research about interest in work, creativity and
productivity in knowledge and service companies (1992, 1993).
In 1995 she published the book "County Council management" (in
Swedish), which was the result of a major research project into
management in politically controlled organizations and the diffe-
rences between a manager in the public sector and a manager in
industry. The results provided evidence for the concept of the
existence of great differences between being a manager in the
pub-lic sector and one in industry, which has later been confirmed
in consultant assignments.
In 1996 the book "Swedish management in Europe" (in Swedish) was
published, it focused on similarities and differences in management
and organization in Scandinavia, Germany, the United Kingdom,
France, Spain and Italy. Furthermore opinions on Swedish manage-
ment are given. The research consisted of interviews with
managers in these countries during a two year period and of an
extensive questionnaire study. Both these two last-named books
received a great deal of media interest.
Research into why there are so few women in managerial positions
resulted in "Leadership in top management" a question of belonging
to the right sex? (in Swedish) (1997).
In 2003 a new study of female managers was carried out - on this occasion it concerned women in top management in local authorities.
Good examples were presented and aspects that can stimulate women to make a management career were highlighted.
In February 1999 "Bridge building - an international perspective on management in politically controlled organizations" (Summary in
English -1998) was published. The book is the result of a research project on management at regional and local levels in Europe, i.e.
Sweden, Denmark, Austria, the Netherlands and Italy. The study showed great differences between Swedish management and organi-
zations on the one hand and that of the other countries on the other. There is a lot that we can learn from each other and by taking
advantage of and utilizing the similarities and differences a creative development process can be stimulated.
August 2005 she published the book "Building a network for learning in a European perspective". This report focused on a comparison of
management and organization within the health services in Sweden, Denmark, Italy and Portugal.
"Management and sick leave - a comparative study of workplaces with high and low levels of sick leave" was published in December 2005.
The result dispel several myths and the book has received a great deal of media attention.
Ingrid T-A was project leader for collaboration between the School of Economics and Management at the University of Lund and three
Polish universities, Warszawa, Gdansk and Lodz. The aim was to educate young Polish researchers in management and three major
Swedish companies ABB, IKEA and Tetra Pac were the project companies.
Since 1989 Ingrid Tollgerdt-Andersson has, at the same time as working with research projects, also worked as a consultant (management
development, organization analysis, evaluations and seminars) in her own consulting company, Tollgerdt Management Development (Ltd.)
and then with, amongst other commissions, management development and organization development in industry and in the public sector.
She is often called in as a lecturer, is a mentor for several leaders, and a supervisor for management groups in both the public sector and
industry.
January 2008 she published the book “How can we be more efficient?”. This report can be seen as a continuation to “Building a network
for learning in a European perspective”.
